It's 2012, but have our schools entered the 21st century?

Samo Bida is a group of PGCE students investigating whether schools have entered the 21st century or if they are lagging behind. Here, we share our findings and opinions on this matter. We welcome your thoughts and comments.

Anna Shaw, Director of 21st Century Schools said, “It is not enough to say that we are in the 21st century.  Technically, it is the 21st century, but our schools are not there, and our challenge now is to reinvent schools for the 21st century – for the sake of our children, our students and the welfare of our world...we have to make the paradigm shift to 21st century education” (Not dated).

What exactly is meant by this “21st century”; what skills would constitute 21st century skills and what would students in the 21st century need?  Would these needs differ from the needs of students prior to the 21st Century?  Read more...
