It's 2012, but have our schools entered the 21st century?

Samo Bida is a group of PGCE students investigating whether schools have entered the 21st century or if they are lagging behind. Here, we share our findings and opinions on this matter. We welcome your thoughts and comments.

Anna Shaw, Director of 21^st Century Schools said, “It is not enough to say that we are in the 21^st century.  Technically, it is the 21^st century, but our schools are not there, and our challenge now is to reinvent schools for the 21^st century – for the sake of our children, our students and the welfare of our world...we have to make the paradigm shift to 21^st century education” (Not dated).

What exactly is meant by this “21^st century”; what skills would constitute 21^st century skills and what would students in the 21^st century need?  Would these needs differ from the needs of students prior to the 21^st Century?  Read more...
